During the 1970s and early 80s, the Cape Cod Coliseum became a hotspot (emphasis on the word hot!) for some of the biggest names in music. In spite of the bad sound and dreadful steam-bath heat, a who’s-who of Classic Rock bands made their way to the small village of South Yarmouth, MA. Chuck Berry, The Grateful Dead, Van Halen, Sly and the Family Stone, Talking Heads, Earth Wind & Fire, Aerosmith, KISS, Peter Frampton, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and the J. Geils Band - performing there ten times!
Each show felt like a mini-Woodstock; a smoky ‘70s tailgate scene with beer and weed hanging in the air from station wagons and vans. More than just the pounding rock and roll, it was a powerful sense of community and camaraderie, building relationships that lasted long after the music ringing in your ears subsided.
