Mike Bernard is an accomplished screenwriter, playwright, and author. His diverse body of work includes eight novels, four optioned screenplays, and a stage musical. He has been recognized internationally through the Academy Nicholl Fellowship, PAGE International Screenwriting Awards, ScreenCraft, Nantucket Film Festival, and various New York and Los Angeles screenplay competitions.
Mike's ‘midlife crisis’ writing career began when all his children and all his money went off to college - checks made out to Loyola University Maryland (x2) and Assumption College respectively. His storytelling resonates with the depth of Dennis Lehane, the wit of Nick Hornby, and the heart of Fredrik Backman, and explores compelling characters, family dynamics and humorous, heartwarming storylines. Essentially, he writes about people who are just as beautifully messy as the rest of us.
A graduate of Providence College and BC High, Mike live on Cape Cod with his wife, Michele. He spends summers being systematically dismantled on the pickleball court by retirees who move significantly faster than he does. In the winters he can be found roaming the aisles of Home Depot, staring at power tools he doesn’t know how to use and wondering if he needs more light bulbs or duct tape.
